Jack Benny and Joan Bennett star In this delightful pre-Code comedy about a troupe of vaudeville performers who finds themselves penniless and stranded in Paris. Eager to get home to the States, they scheme creative ways to collect funds and avoid paying their hotel bill, recruiting additional starving artists along the way. The group’s antics culminate in a lavish show-stopping fashion show on a revolving runway featuring the work of couture icons Schiaparelli, Maggy Rouff, Jeanne Lanvin, Jean Patou and more. About the Fashion: Director Mitchell Leisen began his career as a costume designer for Cecil B. DeMille in the 1920s and by 1938 he began to use his creative eye to direct features at Paramount. Often noted for featuring strong female leads, his pictures also spend a great deal of time focusing on costumes and stylish aesthetics. Leisen’s keen eye for fashion is on full display in the lavish show stopping finale of ARTISTS AND MODELS ABROAD, which features the work of eight credited costume designers including couturiers Madame Alix Gres, Lelong, Jeanne Lanvin, Paquin, Maggy Rouff, Jean Patou, and Schiaparelli alongside the work of Edith Head.
