Play TrailerSpecial EventsIMDB

One of the defining films of Bergman’s career, THE SEVENTH SEAL encapsulates the style, themes, and philosophy of his work. Max von Sydow plays a young knight returning home from the Crusades, seeking answers about life, death, and the existence of God. After a meeting with Death, he plays a game of chess for his life against the backdrop of the Black Plague. Haunting visuals and a brilliant screenplay secure this film as one of the greatest ever made.

Film 101 is a series that explores elements of filmmaking, film criticism, and film theory. Each month we will present an exemplary classic film introduced by an important figure in the film community. This series is underwritten by The Vesta Fund.

Presented on 35mm film. Selected and presented in person by Steven Carter of the Westminster Theological Seminary. Free for Members.
